Clarendelle Pessac Leognan

This Clarendelle Pessac-Leognan Reserve draws its inspiration from the quality, elegance and harmony of the wines produced by Domaine Clarence Dillon. It is especially well balanced and reflects the excellence and tradition of its heritage. Thanks to a skillful blend of four traditional Bordeaux grape varietals, Clarendelle Pessac-Leognan is a wine of character with a subtle structure.

Tasting notes

2008 red Clarendelle Pessac-Léognan is a fine, classic wine, with a dense, rich character and good structure.

The colour is intense. The complex red and black fruit bouquet is rich and fresh. The palate features hints of spice and minerals. The overall impression is full-bodied and luscious, with velvety tannins. The aftertaste is long, aromatic, and promising. James Suckling (90pts): «Berry and dark chocolate character, medium body and a dense center palate. Ripe tannins. A Bordeaux blend from the owners of Haut-Brion.Try after 2011.»

Climate

In 2008, the wet and cool spring slowed the evolution of the vine and resulted in a late start for flowering. July was dry and relatively sunny, which allowed a perfect veraison. The rather cool and damp weather in August slowed down the ripening. This was a true «winegrower’s vintage», where painstaking care of the vines made all the difference in ensuring proper development of the grapes.

The Indian summer started in mid-September and continued throughout the harvest, ensuring that the grapes reached full maturity. This was particularly the case for the latest-ripening grape varietals.
