Clarendelle Saint-Émilion

Clarendelle Saint-Émilion, Inspired by Haut-Brion, is a subtle blend of three traditional Bordeaux grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine expresses all the mystery of Saint-Émilion, with this unique style. It is a real wine of pleasure and sharing.

Tasting notes

Brilliant colour, with a beautiful, dark red hue. The maturity is evident from the outset, with fleshy red berry aromas, particularly black cherry and blackcurrant. They are followed by some subtle animal notes, hints of forest floor and a dash of violet. The gentle extraction process has yielded a well-balanced and concentrated wine, with velvety smooth tannins. The palate is full-bodied and indulgent.  Full-bodied on the palate, they are delicious and very fruity, with notes of cocoa. Hints of spices and liquorice come through on the aftertaste. They display long-lasting flavours and are silky and delicious throughout. All in all, a delicate yet powerful and wonderfully complex wine.

Climate

2020 produced an early-ripening, well-balanced vintage. After a mild winter, the weather began to change, with heavy rainfall providing the necessary water reserves to support the vines over the summer. Bud break occurred late February before the sun returned in April and May, conducive to early, even flowering. Hot, dry conditions settled in from late June onwards but gave way to storms in mid-August. Véraison (colour change) took place mid-July under this ideal spell of weather. The grapes reached optimum ripeness thanks to their very healthy state, up until picking. The first impression when tasting the 2020 red vintage is freshness. These wines are characterised by crunchy black fruit notes, fine acidity and hints of pepper and menthol on the finish, as well as their alcohol content, which is one of the lowest seen in the appellation for a long time.
